The BeadBeater™ disrupts microorganisms and single-cell preparations with better than 95 percent efficiency.  One to 80 grams (wet weight) of cells can be processed in a typical three minute run.  Relying on a unique crushing or cracking action rather than high shear forces found with a French Press or sonicator, a Teflon® impeller rotating at high speed forces thousands of minute glass beads to violently collide in a special clover-leaf shaped vessel.  Cells are disrupted quickly, efficiently and safely in the sealed system.  The apparatus is easy to clean, has a small footprint, requires no auxiliary supplies or equipment and is essentially maintenance free.  Beads settle out in seconds and are reusable.

Ordering Information

Cat. No. 1107900-???, BeadBeater package, $593.00.   The complete package includes a 350 ml polycarbonate chamber, rotor assembly, motor base, ice-water cooling jacket (not shown) and one pound of glass beads of your choice. Indicate your glass bead choice by adding -101, -105 or -110 (0.1, 0.5, or 1.0 mm) to the end of the Cat. Number (example: 1107900-105).  See our Bead Page for guidance in bead selection. Bead compositions other than glass should be order separately.

Cat. No. 1107900EUR, same as above for operation at  220-240 V, $627.00

Accessories

Cat. No. 60801, stainless-Steel chamber for use on the BeadBeater.  Net capacity is 350ml with a working volume of 150-200 ml of cell suspension.  Recommended for preparations requiring optimal cooling during the homogenization process.   This chamber is used with the rotor assembly that is included in the BeadBeater, $97.00

Cat. No. 110803-50 or 110803-15, smaller capacity chambers - with Teflon rotors.   These chambers have working volumes (i.e., cells plus buffer) of 50 ml (#110803-50) or 15 ml (#110803-15).  The chambers are made of polycarbonate and polypropylene plastic and can be autoclaved, if desired, $60 each.

The small chambers fit inside the standard 350 ml BeadBeater polycarbonate chamber.  The latter may be filled with crushed ice and water and to help keep the sample cool.

Cat. No. SASC-15, thick-walled aluminum chamber with Teflon rotor.  Working volume is 15 ml.  The chamber can be precooled and the superior heat capacity and large mass of the 1/2 inch thick metal walls will keep the sample cold.  The SASC-15 can also be combined with the BeadBeater ice water jacket (the later comes standard with the BeadBeater) for the strictest of temperature control.  Further, this chamber is completely resistant to organic solvent attack (phenol/chloroform, alcohol, acetone, etc).  $340.00

Cat. No. 10792, extra 350 ml clear, polycarbonate chamber, $47.00

Cat. No. 43060, solid-state speed control module.  Needed for special applications only, $35.00
