Designed for high-throughput analytical screening, the new MiniBeadbeater-96™, efficiently and safely disrupts up to 192 samples of spores, microorganisms, plant and animal tissue or soil samples at a time .  Using the same efficient homogenization process as its predecessors, the MiniBeadbeater-1 and -8, the sample and a large number of tiny ceramic beads are violently shaken for 2-3 minutes to achieve 90+ percent cell disruption.  The MBB-96 platform holds one or two deep well microplates or up to 45 standard microvials.  The plates, vials and beads are disposable, thus making the  method ideal for PAGE, PCR and Probe applications where cross contamination between samples cannot be tolerated.   Compatible with phenol, Gu-SCN or various commercial kit solutions, RNA/DNA is quickly recovered in the highest possible yields by doing the cell disruption and nucleic acid extraction simultaneously.  See also Comparative Selection Guide “Choosing a High-Throughput Cell Disrupter.”

- Single-phase induction motor, 1 hp, (11.2 amp @ 115VAC or 5.6 amp @ 230VAC), 18"H X 24"L X 16"W, 115 lbs net wt.

- Shaking Speed: 36 oscillations/second or 2100 rpm (speed reduced by 17% with 50Hz power source).  Disruption efficiency comparable to that of lower capacity MBB models, thus protocols are interchangable.

- Shaking pattern: , Shaking top to bottom of vial or plate in a compressed figure-8 pattern, with vials held in a horizontal orientation.  Throw: 1.25 in. (3.2 cm).

- Timer: 0 - 5 minutes with automatic reset.

Accessories

Cat. No. 702L, 96-well manual microplate bead loader.  Loads beads into all 96 wells of a 2 ml deep well microplate at one time. How it works: Load a 1 ml deep well plate with beads, place a frame around the loaded plate, then insert into the frame, upside down, a 2 ml deep well receiving plate.  Transfer the beads by inverting the assembly.  Suitable for 0.1 to 6.35 mm diameter beads and for all densities of bead including steel, $96.00  

 

Cat No. 104L, 96-well vacuum microplate bead loader.  Much faster and easier than Cat. No. 702L.  How it works: Using a supplied compact vacuum machine, beads are sucked up and held in a 96-place manifold having fine stainless steel screens at the ends of the inlets.  Each inlet holds 1 cc of glass, zirconia or resin beads (0.1 to 1 mm dia). Steel beads are too heavy to vacuum up.  The trapped beads are placed over a receiving 2 ml deep well microplate and transferred by switching off the vacuum machine.  Specifications: 115 VAC, 6 Amps (Euro 230V not available at this time), $228

     

Cat. No. 35, 1 1/2" rubber roller, for hand pressing mats on microplates.  Better than doing it with your fingers but for low volume work only, $26.00

Cat No. 504VH12,  Vial rack with a microplate footprint, capacity twelve 7 ml screw-cap, polypropylene vials.  For extraction and cell disruption in sample volumes larger than can be accommodated in a 2 ml microvial, $15

 

Cat. No. 702ALU, vial rack, forty-eight position, black anodized aluminum, for 1.5 or 2.0ml microvials. Microplate footprint. This solid metal rack can be pre-chilled in a refrigerator or freezer.  Recommended for native protein or organelle isolation where cooling is desirable during cell disruption.  In general, cooling is not needed for nucleic acid isolation.  Cooled to liq. nitrogen temperatures, the holder supports "dry" grinding of fresh tissue by the cryopulverization technique, $184.00 ea.  - see also BioPulverizer.
