The Mini-Beadbeater-96 is high-energy, high-throughput cell disrupter. In a single 1-3 minute batch run it handles up to 192 samples using a microplate format or 45 samples in 1.5 or 2 ml microvials. In a busy day thousand of samples can be processed.

Product Description

The Mini-Beadbeater is designed for high-throughput analytical screening of small biological samples. It efficiently and safely disrupts up to 192 samples of spores, microorganisms, plant and animal tissue, or soil samples. In the beadbeating process samples, extraction media and tiny ceramic beads are sealed in microvials or microplates. After 2-3 minutes of violent shaking in the Mini-Beadbeaater greater than 95 percent of the cells are disrupted.
The Mini-Beadbeater-96 platform can hold 45 standard microvials in a provided vial holder or one or two standard 96 deep well microplates. Because plates, vials, and beads are disposable the method is ideal for PAGE, PCR and Probe applications where cross contamination between samples cannot be tolerated. Compatible with phenol, Gu-SCN or various commercial kit solutions, RNA/DNA is quickly recovered in the highest possible yields by the synergy of doing mechanical cell disruption and nucleic acid extraction simultaneously.
Protocols using different models of the MBB are transferable with little if any modification.
The microMiniBeadbeater can be used for dry grinding. In this application, steel beads are added to hard samples such as hair, bone, teeth, seeds and minerals and are completely powdered in 10-60 seconds. Softer materials such as biological tissue, rubber or plastics can be powdered by first pre-freezing the sample to liqN2 temperatures (Cryo-grinding). A solid aluminum vial holder (see accessories below) can also be utilized for maintaining cryogenic temperatures during beadbeating. *Update: We now offer polypropylene microvials made with special resin and structurally reinforced in key locations. Called the 'XTuff' microvial, because it is 10X tougher than ordinarly 2 ml microvials, it can handle the dry grinding process using steel beads. See our vials web page.

- Timer: 0 - 5 minutes with automatic reset.
- Recycle delay time: Zero. No imposed motor cool-down time between sample runs.
